Gayle King is being dragged on Twitter following an interview she conducted with Lisa Leslie on the friendship she shared with the late Kobe Bryant.
A short clip of King asking Leslie about Kobe Bryant's past rape allegation has left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.
In the now viral clip, King says "It's been said that his legacy is complicated, because of a sexual assault charge."
People across the internet, including 50 Cent called the question inappropriate.
"Of course, Now that you’re in the same tax bracket as the white men you have to demonize black men right? Lisa Leslie was Kobe’s friend, how dare you!" @iamjperez2 tweeted.
King gave her own response to the backlash, citing the clip of her interview with Leslie being taken out of context.
"We had a really wide-ranging interview; talked about many things, his career, his passion, his sense of humor, the way he was mentoring other people, how he was starting his next chapter, it was wide-ranging, an yes we talked about that court case because that court case has also come up," she said in a video posted to her Twitter account. "I wanted to get Lisa's take on it as a friend who knew him well, as a friend what she thought, where that should stand."
King said that she thought the entire interview, including the part where Leslie asks for the media to move on provided a good end to that part of the discussion.
"It was very powerful when she looked me in the eye, as a member of the media, to say it's time for the media to leave it alone and to back off," King said.
She said that the clip was released without her knowledge and she didn't intend to disrespect Bryant.
"For the network to take the most salacious part, when taken out of context, and put it up online for people who didn't see the whole interview is very upsetting to me, and that's something i'm going to have to deal with with them," she said.
She went on to discuss her own personal experiences with Bryant and said that he had been warm to her in their interactions.
"The last thing I would want to do is to disparage [Kobe Bryant> at this time,"

Jay - Z's Companies Sue NYC Licensing Company For Fraud
NEW YORK (AP) - Jay - Z's business entities sued a New York City licensing firm, claiming it cheated the companies as part of a " colossal accounting scandal."
The lawsuit accuses Iconic Brand Group Inc. of lying about its finances when it made deals with the rapper's Roc Nation apparel company. There was no immediate response to a phone message Friday seeking comment from Iconix. When Roc Nation entered into a brand partnership with Iconix in 2013, the defendant company was fabricating financial reports to falsely inflate its earnings, according to the suit filed Thursday in state court in Manhattan. The allegations arise " out of a massive years - long fraud perpetrated by Iconix and its affiliates to amass a portfolio of trademarks under false pretenses, in the process defrauding its licensees and partners, and setting off a colossal accounting scandal the depths of which are still being uncovered," the suit says.
It adds that the scheme " sent its share price from a peak of more than $400 per share in 2014, to less than a dollar today. Jay - Z, who's given name is Shawn Carter, was questions behind closed doors last year about the fraud allegations by the Securities and Exchange Commission. At the time, his lawyers said they didn't believe he had any relevant information to share with SEC investigators.
The suit says Jay - Z's companies " have incurred substantial legal expenses in connection with, among other things, the federal government's investigations into Iconix's massive fraud." The plantiffs are seeking payment of legal fees and unspecified damages.
